The following work will be done on the site in the next few weeks.
The Temple (or summer house)
A team of up to 16 young people from the Prince's Trust based at Derby College will do some preliminary work to clean up the existing stonework and locate, and where possible move other masonry up to the site from the stream bed. They will do this in an afternoon, being careful not to disturb the bluebells and the steep bank. They may return later. They will not be restoring the building. There is no cost to our group.
Scrub Clearance
A group of 10-12 volunteers from SERCO in Derby will be spending a day clearing scrub at the NE end of the site.
The aim is to create 2 glades in this area which is mainly hawthorn and ash saplings, in a similar way to the 4 rides we cut in 2007 and 2008 which appear to be developing well and are well used. The wood and cuttings will be stacked in piles as BTCV have done in the past. They are providing their own equipment, and there is no cost to us.
General Maintenance
I hope to organise another day later in the Spring, using our own volunteers to maintain the rides, care for the hedge saplings, clear pathways, and start to tackle the Balsam in the swamp. We got a lot done in a morning last year with about 12 of us.
